Imagining Worlds: Dramatic Writing Workshop

German playwright Bertold Brecht has said that “art is not a mirror to reflect reality, but a hammer with which to shape it.” This class builds upon the basics of playwriting by helping students to build up characters, and imagined worlds in their writing. Guided by a professional dramatist, students will read and discuss passages from famous plays and analyze how dramatists build worlds in which to discuss their major ideas and themes. From there, they will be taught how to format, structure, and revise a one act play. On the last day of the class, professional actors will bring student plays to life over Zoom.
