Sitcom Writing 101 (for 8th, 9th, and 10th graders)

Jerry Seinfeld famously identified the four levels of comedy: "make your friends laugh, make strangers laugh, get paid to make strangers laugh, and make people talk like you because it's so much fun." In this City Smart's elective, we can't guarantee students will experience all four levels, but we can promise at least one or two. After studying the elements of the sitcom – from format to dialogue to structure – students will embark on writing their own short comedy pilot.
